Lucy Sallick papers 1677-2009 (bulk: 1830-1890). [manuscript]

Family charts, coats of arms and genealogical research concerning the ancestry of Lucy Sallick with the bulk of material covering Mrs. Sallick's paternal ancestry of the families of Prince, Riley, Forsaith, Curtis and Sturtevant. . Much of the family records and genealogical research notes concerning the Prince family was compiled by Thomas Prince (1811-1891), a printer, of Boston, Mass. The collection includes two published circulars by Thomas Prince in 1851 and 1853 seeking genealogical information on the descendants of his grandfather, Kimball Prince (1726-1814) of Kingston, Mass. While the focus of Mr. Prince's research and notes is on the descendants of Kimball, there is a photocopied handwritten genealogy of the descendants of John Prince (1610-1676) of East Shefford, Berkshire, England and settler of Hull, Mass. The collection also contains the family records of Hezekiah Prince (1771-1840) and his wife, Isabella Coomb,s with genealogical notes of the next three generations of descendants. Additional family records cover the descendants of Anna (Prince) Burgess (1791-1876), Noah Prince ans his wife Olive Faunce, Betsy Prince and her husband David Doten with records of the Sherman, Fuller, Prince and Ring families, 1726-1867. Among the various handrawn family charts are the maternal and paternal lines of Mrs. Sallick and a nine generation chart belonging to Mrs. Sallick's paternal grandmother, Marjorie (Prince) Riley. Of particular interest is the oldest document in the collection - a 1677 book of remedies. These medicinal remedies are for the treatment of various illnesses such as a "frog in ye mouth" and treatments for "blood shod eyes". Althouth provenance is unknown, the book likely came into the possession of a member of the Prince family. There are some reference notes pertaining to a possible author of the work. Within the text, is a handwritten copy of the Rev. Thomas Thacher's 1677 published broadside of his useful remedies for the treatment of smallpox or measles. The names Daniel and William Greenleaf can also be found in the book. Other items in the collection include an account book once owned by Thomas Prince the compiler of the family genealogy and used as a scrapbook by his grandaughter, Majorie (Prince) Riley; and a single volume of bound issues of The Village Firefly, a weekly periodical, published by Thomas Prince in 1831-1832 "in his twentieth year". There are ten folders of material related to the collateral and allied families of Curtis, Forsaith, Riley and Sturtevant. The Forsaith material includes genealogical notes related to Jonathan Waldron Forsaith (1810-1884), town clerk of Brunswick, Maine from 1865 to 1867 and his son George who died in Shanghai, China in 1918.
